Amos set for pastures new
Peter Amos, managing director of the Jockey Club Estates, has announced his intention to step down from his role to pursue a career elsewhere.
Amos took up his position in 1991 and will remain in place until a successor has been found.
“I have thoroughly enjoyed my 14 years with Jockey Club Estates and I am very grateful for the support I have received from the board and from the trainers,” said Amos.
“I consider myself privileged to have led the team tasked with re-establishing Newmarket as an internationally acknowledged centre of excellence for the training of racehorses.
“Personally, the time is right for me to move on and pursue a different career.
“However, I will be staying until shortly after the turn of the year to oversee on-going projects and assist the board in recruiting a replacement for myself.
“There are exciting times ahead for Jockey Club Estates; the acquisition of the Lambourn gallops is a fascinating and positive development, while we are also committed to maintaining and upgrading standards in Newmarket.
“I will work with the board to try and ensure a smooth hand-over to my successor.”
The chairman of Jockey Club Estates, Julian Richmond-Watson, said: “Obviously, we are disappointed to be losing Peter.
“During his time with Jockey Club Estates, he has overseen the regeneration of the Newmarket training grounds and his expertise and dedication to the job will be greatly missed by the town’s racing community.
“The relationship he enjoyed with the trainers provided the foundation on which the success of his tenure was built.
“While the board of Jockey Club Estates regrets that Peter is moving on, we understand his decision and wish him all the best in the future.”
