Carte Diamond will line up in Saturday’s Caulfield Cup after the Melbourne Racing lub used their discretionary powers to add him to the field.

Brian Ellison’s four-year-old is due to have his prep for next month’s Emirates Melbourne Cup in the 12-furlong event, but his participation was thrown into doubt after he fell outside the top 18 in the elimination order.

A total of 26 horses were declared for the Group One race, but there is a safety limit of 18 and Carte Diamond was one of five horses in equal 17th.

The MRC have the power to pick which of those will run and they chose Ellison’s charge, along with local runner Sir Dex, to take the final two places.

Godolphin will have two runners with Razkalla and Fight Your Corner both declared.
