Play Me to make Royal return

Peter Chapple-Hyam’s lightly-raced Play Me could make a belated return to action in Saturday’s Princess Royal John Doyle Stakes at Newmarket.

The Bloomsbury Stud-owned filly has only raced twice so far, finishing a close third to subsequent Oaks winner Eswarah at Newbury before filling the same spot behind Secret History in the Musidora Stakes at York in May.

The 12-furlong Group Three could be a tough assignment for Play Me’s return, however, with the likes of Ouija Board, Twyla Tharp and Summitville also engaged at this stage.

Speaking on his website, www.peterchapplehyam.com, the trainer said: “It looks a tough race and it needs to cut up for her to run.

“But she has improved and at the moment I’d say it’s 50-50 as to whether she takes her place in the race.”
