Alcazar given another French mission
Alcazar is likely to return to France in a bid to win the Prix Royal-Oak at the third attempt following the biggest win of his career at Deauville.
Hughie Morrison’s evergreen stayer has been placed behind Westerner in that Group One at Longchamp for the past two seasons.
He showed he was as good as ever when running out a convincing two-length winner of the Group Two Prix Kergorlay at Deauville on Sunday.
The 10-year-old is currently having a break before being prepared for another trip to France.
“It’s long journey there and back so we are giving him a week or two off and we will take it from there,” said Morrison.
The Prix du Cadran at Longhamp on Arc de Triomphe day (October 2) is a possibility but Alcazar is more likely to wait for the Prix Royal-Oak at the Paris track three weeks later.
“He’ll be entered in the Cadran but it’s more likely he’ll go for the Royal-Oak – he’s run well in it for the last couple of years,” Morrison continued.
“He’s a good horse and we thought he was really well last Sunday, although I thought he might have needed it.”
