Bookies' favourite wins Chester race
Favourite backers got their money back 35 minutes later when 11-8 chance Global Genius took the Blue Square 0800 587 0200 EBF Maiden Stakes to give trainer Barry Hills his fourth victory in the race in the last five years.
The winner was ridden by his son Michael, who produced the Galileo colt to lead inside the last of the seven furlongs and gain the day by a length from the front-running Mutamarres.
Derby entry Global Genius had finished second in the Chesham Stakes at Royal Ascot at York before being beaten by a Godolphin newcomer at Doncaster last time.
“I was disappointed he didn’t win at Royal Ascot at York but he ran a good race,” said owner Jack Hanson.
“He was beaten by an unknown quantity and got a bit worked up last time but he was all right today. He's more of a three-year-old type so it’s a bonus for him to win as a two-year-old.”
