Amigoni take Anglesey glory
Amigoni just got the better of Black Charmer in a terrific finish to the Dubai Duty Free Anglesey Stakes at the Curragh today.
Aidan O’Brien’s juvenile wore down Mark Johnston’s charge close home to take the Group Three contest by half a length.
Kieren Fallon switched to Amigoni after his intended mount Aussie Rules was a late withdrawal.
Fallon, replacing Seamus Heffernan, had to be at his strongest to force Amigoni, the 7-4 favourite, past Black Charmer in the last 100 yards.
O'Brien said: ``With every run he's getting better. He's a very tough horse. Racing is really improving him and we'll keep him going.
“He’s in at Goodwood over six and seven furlongs. I don’t think seven would be a problem but I might just be more inclined to keep him to six for the time being and go for the Richmond.”
The Ballydoyle trainer added that Aussie Rules missed the race as he was found to have a stone bruise this morning.
