Ruby plans to show 'em how it's done at Epsom

Grand National-winning rider Ruby Walsh is looking forward to showing Frankie Dettori how it is done when he lines up for the first Sodexho Prestige Jump Jockey’s Derby at Epsom.

Officials at the Surrey track are hoping the likes of Walsh, Barry Geraghty and Timmy Murphy will take part in the July 7 event over the unique mile-and-a-half course.

Walsh said: “It is a great idea as Epsom Downs has an awesome reputation as a racecourse to ride around with all of its twists and turns, and in particular the different skills your horse needs to win the Derby.”

Dettori has yet to win Flat racing’s blue riband in 13 attempts and Walsh added: “I have always wanted to ride in a race at Epsom, and I am looking forward to showing Frankie Dettori how easy it is to win the Derby at Epsom!”

Stephen Wallis, Epsom’s managing director, said: “We have the Derby on the first Saturday in June, we have the Amateur Derby on the Bank Holiday in August and the apprentice Derby in October.

“We therefore thought our very own Jump Jockey’s Derby would complete the quartet and the jump jockeys are very keen to ride around Epsom Downs as well.”
