Fabre filly Vadawina undergoes op

Vadawina, fourth in last Sunday’s Prix de Diane, fractured her near-hind pastern during the race and was due to be operated on yesterday.

Andre Fabre’s filly had been regarded as the most likely horse in the field at Chantilly to end the seven-race winning streak of Divine Proportions and she was sent off the second favourite.

Vadawina was previously unbeaten herself from three outings, including a facile victory in the Prix Saint-Alary, and was travelling well up to a furlong out on Sunday before being eased as Divine Proportions strolled to success.

“Vadawina has fractured her back-left pastern and will be operated on this afternoon. I believe it happened at the beginning of the straight,” her trainer told the Racing Post.

The severity of the injury is not yet known.
