Classic first for Crowley

Saoire held Penkenna Princess in a thrilling finish to the Boylesports Irish 1000 Guineas at the Curragh today.

Trained by Frances Crowley and ridden by Mick Kinane, the 10-1 chance just edged out Ralph Beckett’s British challenger Penkenna Princess.

Luas Line was a close third.

Crowley, married to top Irish jockey Pat Smullen, was landing her first ever Classic triumph.

Smullen rode Utterly Heaven into fourth place for his boss Dermot Weld.
