Burgundian stars in Al Kurdi treble
Burgundian will be aimed at the UAE 2000 Guineas and Derby after breaking his duck at the third attempt in a seven-furlong maiden race at Nad Al Sheba in Dubai tonight.
With all jockeys donating at least one of their riding fees to the Asian disaster fund, champion Ted Durcan partnered Mazin Al Kurdi’s Epsom Derby entrant to a comfortable victory from stable companion Clasp.
Burgundian, who ran once for Jeremy Noseda last season when fourth at Yarmouth, had run well on his UAE bow three weeks ago.
Durcan said; “We have always thought he was a lovely horse and he has done it well. He will have learnt a lot and will be better over further.”
The trainer completed a treble when Richard Mullen scored a comfortable victory on Attlee in the seven-and-a-half-furlong race and then made most of a weight concession on Hazelhatch in the six-furlong handicap.
The winner led home a 1-2-3 for Al Kurdi as he was followed by stablemates Storm Of Tara and Mr Magistrate.
Al Kurdi was denied a four-timer when Prince Of Denmark was caught close home by Doug Watson’s Opportunist, the mount of Willie Supple, in the seven-furlong handicap.
The concluding nine-furlong handicap was won easily by Cotosol, completing a double for both Durcan and Watson.
