Grey bound for Cheltenham

Scots Grey will head to Cheltenham on Saturday for the Unicoin Homes Chase with connections bullish that he has a “great each-way-chance”.

Nicky Henderson’s lightly-raced nine-year-old has only been seen on the track once this season, running creditably before unseating at the last in the bonusprint.com Gold Cup at the same course earlier this month.

It had been the aim to head to Kempton last Monday for the same race in which he defeated the classy Hand Inn Hand last year, but that plan was scuppered when the meeting was abandoned.

“He is a definite runner, and I think that Nicky will run Caracciola in the race too,” said owner Henry Ponsonby.

“He has been working very well recently, and needed the race last time at Cheltenham. He ran well that day, and will improve for the run. He was unseated, and just got a bit tired at the end.

“He is 100% now, he was meant to go to Kempton on Monday, but that was called off, and our plan had always been to go for this race if that happened.

“I think that he will run a very good race. He has a great each-way chance.”
