Willie Ryan to retire at end of season
Willie Ryan is to retire at the end of the turf season.
The rider – currently number one jockey to Henry Cecil – partnered Benny The Dip to Epsom glory for John Gosden in 1997 as the pair just got the better of a thrilling duel with Silver Patriarch.
“I have enjoyed every minute of my career and it has been a great pleasure to be associated with a genius like Henry Cecil,” Ryan told the Racing Post.
“We have had very few cross words and have had some great times together, but all good things have to come to an end.
“I feel it’s the right time to stop race-riding; I feel that I’ve had my best days as a jockey and the right thing to do is to be honest with myself and the people I ride for.”
