Airwave heading for the sales
Airwave looks set to have her last run for Henry Candy at Ascot this weekend before she is sent to the sales.
The four-year-old has been one of the top sprinters in the country over the last two seasons, landing last year’s Temple Stakes at Sandown and achieving three Group One placings.
However, her trainer, who is also a part-owner of the Cheveley Park Stakes-winning filly, is not involved in breeding and there appears little alternative but to sell her.
“This will probably be her last run,” Candy told the Racing Post.
“She is going to the December Sales. There has been no fall-out between the owners, but what do you expect us to do with her?”
“It will be very sad to see her go, but none of us are into breeding”.
Airwave will line up for the Group Two GNER Diadem Stakes at the Berkshire track, having finished third to The Tatling at Newbury last weekend, whom she may meet again on Saturday.
“She is a definite runner on Saturday,” added the Wantage handler.
“I was very pleased with her at Newbury. I don’t see any reason why six furlongs round the bend at Ascot won’t suit her.”
