Doyen looks unlikely to tackle next month’s Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe at Longchamp after a disappointing show at Leopardstown yesterday.

The four-year-old finished seventh in the Baileys Irish Champion Stakes, beating just his pacemaker Millstreet.

Doyen, winner of the King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Diamond Stakes, had been a short-priced favourite for the Arc but Godolphin’s racing manager Simon Crisford expects him to miss the Group One race.

“Doyen ran very flat which is extremely disappointing. We will see how he is over the next few days, but I would expect he is due for a rest and will not run in the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe,” he told www.godolphin.com.
