Soviet Song tops QEII bill
The Queen Elizabeth II Stakes at Ascot on September 25 has attracted 55 entries, with most of Europe’s top performers represented in the £250,000 (€378,900) contest.
All of those who contested Glorious Goodwood’s Sussex Stakes, including the victorious Soviet Song, have been entered along with Mark Johnston’s Attraction, who suffered the first defeat of her career to the former in Newmarket’s Falmouth Stakes.
French trainer Jonathan Pease’s colt Bago is another horse that could be involved in the race.
The son of Nashwan, unbeaten in his six races so far, is regarded as an extremely exciting prospect and Pease considers him to be the best horse he has trained.
Amongst other horses entered for the race are Prince Of Wales’s Stakes winner Rakti, St James’s Palace Stakes victor Azamour, and the winners of the Irish, English and French 2000 Guineas, Bachelor Duke, Haafhd and American Post respectively.
On the same card at Ascot, 108 entries were received for the Group One Meon Valley Stud Fillies’ Mile, won in 2002 by QEII entry Soviet Song.
