Eddie Ahern made the most of a chance ride when he brought Alan Bailey’s Ballycroy Girl home a shock 20-1 winner of the Fergie’s 50th EBF Maiden Stakes at Ayr today.

Ahern, deputising for the injured Jimmy Fortune, brought Ballycroy Girl with a strong burst to lead inside the final furlong and stretch away to beat Venetian King convincingly by two lengths.
