Goodwood target for progressive Admiral

Royal Ascot winner Admiral could try and follow up at Glorious Goodwood on July 28.

The three-year-old got up by a head in the King George V Stakes and is now being trained with a possible tilt at the £85,000 (€126,000) Cantor Odds Handicap in mind.

“He is 100% after his terrific Ascot victory but is having a freshen-up after two quick runs. He won the King George V only 12 days after his previous run at Haydock,” said Harry Herbert, managing director of owners Highclere Thoroughbred Racing.

“Admiral has been put up 4lb by the handicapper and with that he should be able to go to war again in another top mile-and-a-half handicap.”

St James’s Palace Stakes fifth Brunel, who runs in the same colours and scored in the German 2000 Guineas in May, could also go to Goodwood.

Herbert added: “Brunel is very well and he will go for another Group One contest.

“We will be looking at races like the Sussex Stakes at Goodwood and the Prix de Jacques le Marois at Deauville in August, as well as judging the prospects of going over a mile and a quarter next time out.

“We wouldn’t be adverse to stepping him up in distance.”
