Godolphin duo among 10 in Oaks

Godolphin pair Sundrop and Punctilious head a small but select field of 10 fillies left in the Vodafone Oaks at today’s confirmation stage.

All the leading candidates for next Friday’s Classic stood their ground, with Sir Michael Stoute’s Poise and the Jim Bolger-trained Alexander Goldrun among the expected absentees.

Frankie Dettori has yet to decide which of the two Godolphin fillies to partner at Epsom.

Sundrop finished second to the brilliant Attraction in the UltimateBet.com 1000 Guineas at Newmarket, while Punctilious was a six-length winner of the Tattersalls Musidora Stakes at York.

Ballydoyle maestro Aidan O’Brien still has four possible candidates, with All Too Beautiful backed up by Baraka, Necklace and Kisses For Me.

All Too Beautiful, a full-sister to Derby winner Galileo, is unbeaten in two races, winning a Listed contest at Navan on her last run, and is a best-priced 6-1 for the Oaks.

John Dunlop has confirmed 1000 Guineas third Hathrah, and Clive Brittain could be represented by his recent Italian Oaks winner Menhoubah.

Another leading candidate, Ed Dunlop’s Ouija Board, remains in the race, and the possible field is rounded off by the Brian Meehan-trained Windsor maiden winner Crystal.
