No extra entries in colts' Classic
Today’s supplementary entry stage for the French 2000 Guineas passed with no additional runners so American Post faces a maximum of seven rivals in Sunday’s Classic.
Trainer Criquette Head-Maarek is upbeat over her Epsom Derby candidate’s prospects in the Longchamp race.
“Everything’s fine – he’s in great shape. Richard Hughes rides,” she said.
Hughes was injured and unavailable for American Post’s last outing, when he won the Prix de Fontainebleau.
Others remaining in the race include Godolphin’s Byron and the Aidan O’Brien-trained trio Antonius Pius, Grand Reward and Newton. The field will be finalised tomorrow.
Fourteen fillies are in the French 1000 Guineas after two late additions at today’s supplementary stage.
Italian 1000 Guineas winner Rumba Loca and the Francois Rohaut-trained Torrestrella were added to the field.
John Dunlop’s UltimateBet.com 1000 Guineas third Hathrah was removed from calculations, but Godolphin are set to be doubly represented with Cairns and Carry On Katie.
John Gosden still has Nyramba in the race, while O’Brien has Royal Tigress and Follow.
Roger Charlton’s Prix de l’Abbaye winner Patavellian heads the dozen standing their ground in the Group Three Prix de Saint-Georges.
