Channon hangs fire over Majestic plans

Mick Channon will wait a few days before deciding on a target for Majestic Desert following her slightly disappointing performance in the UltimateBet.com 1000 Guineas.

The trainer believes the race may have come too soon after her win in the Fred Darling Stakes at Newbury.

She only finished ninth to Attraction, just one place behind her stable companion Silca’s Gift.

He said: “Majestic Desert didn’t travel as well as she normally does and it was her class which got her as close.

“She seems to have come out of it fine and my feeling is that she may need a good break between her races. She is a generous little filly but this was quite soon after Newbury.

Channon was delighted with the performance of Silca’s Gift, who failed to get the trip.

“I was thrilled with Silca’s Gift who didn’t get the trip after travelling well and I am perplexed because she looked certain to stay with her performance in the Nell Gwyn,” he added.

“She probably needs a stiff six or an easy seven and I’ll think about a race at Royal Ascot for her.”
