Hawk's for a happy landing
Hawk’s Landing can make it second time lucky at Folkestone tomorrow after an unfortunate start to his chasing career.
The Jonjo O’Neill-trained seven-year-old has had just one start over fences, tipping up at Taunton, but he is well worth another chance in the folkestone-racecourse.co.uk Beginners’ Chase.
Hawk’s Landing parted company with his rider six out in Well Chief’s race at the Somerset track, but he was going well when making his mistake and had jumped soundly up to that point.
He would have a cracking chance judged on his hurdles form, which included one victory and some very good performances in defeat in a short career that lasted just four races.
This looks an ideal opportunity for him to get off the mark in his new sphere, in which he is expected to come into his own.
Barracat is an interesting jumps runner for trainer Barry Hills and he is worth a look in the Burmarsh Novices’ Hurdle.
The seven-year-old has had just one start and that came in May 2002 in a bumper at Hereford, where he was an easy three-and-a-half-length winner over Lady Terimond.
He stayed on really well that day and although he has been off the track for quite a while, Hills is sure to have him primed for the task.
Diamond Orchid found one too good at Southwell last week in the shape of the in-form Bella Pavlina.
She pinched a good lead off the home turn but was just outstayed by the winner inside the final furlong.
Diamond Orchid travels to Wolverhampton tomorrow and can gain compensation in the Betdirect.co.uk Banded Stakes.
At Southwell, Skip Of Colour can atone for a disappointing show on his last run by taking the Bet Direct On ATR Text Page 412 Maiden Stakes.
Paul Blockley’s charge was well-fancied at Wolverhampton but he trailed home a poor fifth after weakening quickly in the final three furlongs or so.
Something was obviously amiss that day as Skip Of Colour had previously looked promising when fourth at Lingfield.
He should be given another try here.
