Milenium on comeback trail

Davenport Milenium makes his return from injury in the Ballymore Properties Hatton’s Grace Hurdle at Fairyhouse on Sunday.

The seven-year-old has been on the sidelines for nearly a year after straining a tendon last season.

Davenport Milenium, who won two Grade One races at the 2002 Punchestown Festival, returns in the two and a half mile race on Sunday and trainer Willie Mullins is hoping for a good show.

“He’s in good form and we’re just taking the view that we’ll give him a few races as he needs the experience, particularly at this level,” he said.

“He probably will need the run though.”

Mullins also runs the mercurial dual-purpose performer Holy Orders in the race.

The six-year-old was last seen when finishing 17th in the Melbourne Cup at the beginning of the month.

However, the son of Unblest made more headlines in Australia for his refusal to work in the build up to the race then for his actual performance.

Although Mullins is worried about Sunday’s trip, he reports the horse to be in better form.

“This trip might be a little too short for Holy Orders but he’s in good enough form and will take his chance,” he said.

“He had a nice little break in Australia and he’s been behaving himself since he came home. The break seems to have done him good!”

Edward O’Grady’s Sacundai looks a likely favourite judged on his win at Aintree in April and Mullins added: “I’m hoping both of them can put in good runs but it’s a very hot race and Sacundai will be hard to beat.”
