Balmont lame after Dewhurst

Top two-year-old Balmont was found to be lame after his disappointing effort in the Darley Dewhurst Stakes at Newmarket at the weekend.

The Gimcrack winner could only manage seventh place in the Group One contest behind 33-1 winner Milk It Mick and was never able to get in a serious blow.

ā€œPat (Ederry) said Balmont didn’t stretch out in the race when he came off the bridle,ā€ trainer Jeremy Noseda told his website.

ā€œThen on Sunday morning we found the horse was lame on his near-fore foot. He had popped an abscess in the heel.

ā€œIn the long-term it’s of no concern, but it could be a possible reason for his below-par performance.ā€

Meanwhile another two-year-old star from Shalfleet, Peak To Creek, is an intended runner in Friday’s Horris Hill Stakes at Newbury.
