Funny Cide could bypass Breeders' Cup

Dual Classic winner Funny Cide is set to return to action early next month, it was revealed on the Blood-Horse website.

However, it is reported to be doubtful that the Kentucky Derby and Preakness Stakes winner will make it to the Breeders’ Cup on October 25.

“I’d like to get a race for him the first week of October and then maybe the Cigar Mile in November,” trainer Barclay Tagg told the Blood-Horse. “I’d like to win the three-year-old championship with him.

If he wins those, he’d have a great shot at it.”

Funny Cide finished a disappointing third in the Haskell Invitational on August 3 in his last start.

The popular New York-bred gelding had his first workout since the Haskell last Friday, when breezing over half a mile at Belmont Park.

“He’s been doing really well and we want to keep it going,” Tagg said.

Funny Cide’s next race has yet to be determined, but those under consideration are the Kelso Breeders’ Cup Handicap on turf at Belmont and the Indiana Derby at Hoosier Park.
