McCoy hopes to be out after weekend

Champion jump jockey Tony McCoy, who broke his right arm in a fall at Worcester on Wednesday of last week, is hoping to be discharged from hospital next week.

He was originally released from Worcester Hospital last Friday after a metal plate was inserted in his arm.

However, McCoy had been suffering from excessive swelling since the weekend and was admitted to Great Western Hospital in Swindon, where he underwent further surgery, and he is due to have another operation this weekend.

A statement released today by his personal assistant Gee Armytage said: “AP McCoy is very grateful to everyone for their calls, cards and messages following his injury.

“He is very keen to leave hospital and will hopefully be discharged early next week.

“The only remaining operation is the final closure of the wound and that is being done this weekend.

“The doctor has stated that the operation on the broken bone was straightforward and a success and most importantly is healing well.

“Needless to say, AP is looking forward to race-riding again as soon as possible.”
