Kyllachy may have run his last race
Kyllachy may have run his last race after being troubled with a mystery stiffness since his win in the Victor Chandler Nunthorpe Stakes, it has emerged.
The four-year-old staked a strong claim to be champion sprinter in Europe with a brilliant victory in the Group One feature at York less than two weeks ago.
The Prix de l’Abbaye at Longchamp in October was being earmarked as the next target for the son of Pivotal who also won the Victor Chandler Palace House Stakes at Newmarket and Sandown’s Tripleprint Temple Stakes this season.
However, as his condition had been causing concern, he underwent X-rays on his knees on Wednesday followed by a bone scan in Lambourn of his entire frame.
He is now back at Henry Candy’s stable in Wantage following the tests.
“They didn’t find anything definite. He’s very nearly sound again now and he seems fine,” Candy said.
“We’re just going to give him three weeks on the easy and then decide what to do.”
Candy did admit that although the Abbaye was still being considered, retirement was the more likely option.
“The Abbaye is a bit doubtful quite honestly, but it is still a possibility. Retirement I’d say was the most likely policy, but no decision has been made.”
