McCoy's odds cut for BBC award
Tony McCoy’s record breaking achievement yesterday at Uttoxeter has seen his odds slashed for the BBC Sports Personality of the Year contest.
The 28-year-old surpassed Richard Dunwoody’s all-time career wins record by riding a double on Dream With Me and Mighty Montefalco at the Midlands track.
Earlier in the year he broke Gordon Richards’ long-standing record for the number of winners in a season when notching 289 victories last campaign.
McCoy beat Dunwoody’s record in around 3000 fewer rides and Jennie Prest, spokesperson for William Hill, said, believes his exploits could see him spring a surprise in the annual television award.
She said: “Tony McCoy is now the most successful jump jockey ever and he is a phenomenally tough and consistent sportsman.
“Behind Frankie he is the most recognised jockey these days, which is a great reflection of his achievements.
“We have halved his price from 100-1 to 50-1 to win the BBC Sports Personality of the Year and he has a great chance of being in the final now.”
