Dettori to face Jockey Club inquiry
Frankie Dettori faces a belated inquiry on Thursday into a ride he gave a horse at Newmarket nearly eight weeks ago.
He is charged under rule 158, which covers a jockey's failure to take all possible measures to ensure his mount is given the best possible chance in a race, for his riding of Lobos at Newmarket on June 21.
Trainer Ed Dunlop also appears before the Jockey Club disciplinary committee in London over a possible breach of rule 155 (ii) regarding his instructions to the rider.
Lobos led until two furlongs out in the mile-and-a-quarter Bjorn Again Maiden Stakes then weakened to finish 11th of 16, with Dettori easing the gelding whom he reportedly believed to have gone lame.
No inquiry was held by the Newmarket stewards on the day but the race was later reviewed by the Jockey Club, who decided there was a case to answer, though Dettori denies any wrongdoing.
In a separate hearing Francis Norton faces a lengthy ban under the 'totting-up' procedure.
He was referred to Portman Square after being found to have caused interference on Charley Bates in the JP Morgan Private Bank Goodwood Cup as he has been banned for 15 days for the same offence in the past 12 months.
