Ellens looks the right lad

Rely on Ellens Lad to make amends for an unlucky run at Goodwood last time with victory in the Tote Exacta Stakes at Windsor tomorrow evening.

Willie Musson’s gelding returned to form with a neck second to Delegate at Newmarket last month and on the strength of that performance he was well supported for the Vodafone Stewards’ Cup.

He finished in mid-division that day but was hampered at a crucial stage and would have gone close with any sort of run.

Ellens Lad can recoup losses in tomorrow’s Showcase Handicap.

Far Reaching can land a deserved success earlier on in the evening in the Reading Evening Post Maiden Stakes.

This Distant View filly was disappointing when ninth of 10 behind Thaqib on her racecourse debut, but she showed improved form to finish second to Dryden House over a mile last time out.

The Henry Cecil-trained filly set the pace that day and stayed on well although Dryden House seemed to have just a bit too much in the locker for her to match. She is sure to have progressed for her experiences and can land this event.

Thirsk also stage some evening action and trainer Tim Easterby can draw first blood by taking the opening Doreen Davenport Birthday Maiden Auction Stakes with Gladys Aylward.

This daughter of Polar Falcon has two third places to her credit so far this season over six furlongs at Catterick and over the minimum trip last time out at Beverley.

At Catterick she seemed likely to benefit from a longer trip so it was no surprise that she could only manage a five lengths third behind Bond Becks last time out. Her two racecourse outings should stand her in good stead and the step up to seven furlongs here should see her get off the mark.

Earlier in the day, James Given can unveil another useful juvenile runner in Shouting The Odds, who looks a good bet to land the Garden Of England Maiden Auction Stakes at Folkestone. Given has enjoyed Group success recently with Wunders Dream and although this filly does not look to be up to her standard, she looks capable of landing this Class F event.

The daughter of Victory Note shaped with promise on her debut when a half length second to Foolhardy at Musselburgh. She missed the break that day and ran green early on before staying on well in the closing stages. Although she stays at the minimum trip here, Shouting The Odds should know more about her job and can oblige here.
