Sahkee big doubt for Diamond Stakes
Sakhee's participation in Saturday's King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Diamond Stakes at Ascot looks to be in doubt.
Godolphin's Simon Crisford walked the Ascot track on Wednesday afternoon, discovering that the current good to firm going would not be certain to suit the five-year-old horse.
Sakhee, whof won last year's Prix de l'Arc De Triomphe Lucien Barriere by six lengths, has not been seen on a racecourse since finishing third to stable-companion Street Cry in the Dubai World Cup back in March.
It would seem racing fans may have to wait a little longer if the current dry spell holds until the weekend.
Crisford told Godolphin's official website: "We walked the track and the going is good to firm - fast summer ground. We are really hoping for some rain now for Sakhee to take his chance.
"He needs good ground and it may not be the right thing to do to risk him on fast going with big international events coming up in the second half of the season.
"What we are reluctant to do is risk him now on ground which is unfavourable to him and jeopardise his chances later in the year because of that.
"I imagine that Sakhee will be declared tomorrow, along with Grandera and Narrative, for the King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Diamond Stakes and a final decision will be reached on Saturday."
