David Barron has revealed he is likely to be double-handed as he bids to improve his fine record in the William Hill Trophy at York on Saturday.

He is set to run both Impressive Flight and Marcus Aurelius in the six-furlong handicap, which he won with Mallia in 1996 and has also had several horses placed in recent years - including future Group One winner Coastal Bluff who was second in 1995.

‘‘At the moment I would say they would both run,’’ the trainer said.

‘‘I have no idea of riding plans as that will depend on the weights - if the top horse comes out they will go up 10lb.’’

Impressive Flight was cut to 11-2 by Hills after the Barron runner was heavily backed with the Leeds-based firm. Marcus Aurelius is a 20-1 chance.

Their trainer reflected: ‘‘They are both a bit short on experience but Impressive Flight is potentially quite classy.

‘‘I have had the second in this race quite a few times, and Mallia was probably the worst horse I have run in it!’’
