Horse Racing: Commanche Court lines up for Cup
Irish challengers still among the 55-strong field for the Sandown Gold Cup include Commanche Court, who was second to Best Mate in this year’s Tote Cheltenham Gold Cup and Mouse Morris’ smart performer Foxchapel King.
Meanwhile, What’s Up Boys and Blowing Wind could both be heading to Sandown for the Gold Cup on April 27 and they will be hoping to land the £100,000 (€163,000) bonus.
The pair, second and third respectively in the Martell Grand National would be in line for the massive bonus should they win the end of season highlight.
Philip Hobbs, trainer of What’s Up Boys confirmed: ‘‘What’s Up Boys has come out of the Grand National 100% and will be turned out for a well-deserved rest for a week. The aim is the Gold Cup and the £100,000 bonus.’’
The Robert Ogden-owned pair Marlborough and Ad Hoc are still in the three miles, five and a half furlong contest, as is impressive Cheltenham Festival winner Frenchman’s Creek.
Carbury Cross, a facile winner at Aintree last week is also among the entries as is Djeddah, who is the only French runner.
Racing Post Chase winner Gunther McBride is another possible for the race.
