Racing: Bindaree wins Grand National
Bindaree (20-1) produced a tremendous fight back to deny What’s Up Boys in a dramatic Martell Grand National at Aintree today.
Ridden by Tote Cheltenham Gold Cup winning jockey Jim Culloty, the Nigel Twiston-Davies-trained chestnut looked to be beaten as he was headed by 10-1 chance What’s Up Boys at the final fence.
It looked all over as the Philip Hobbs-trained grey led to the elbow but Culloty drew every bit of stamina from Bindaree and they gradually wore the leader down before going on close home to take first prize by one and three quarter lengths with 8-1 favourite Blowing Wind, ridden by Tony McCoy, 27 lengths back in third.
