Dancing to make Waves in maiden
The daughter of Zoffany missed the kick in a Roscommon maiden won by the highly regarded Branch Line, but made an impressive move around the outside to mount a challenge in the straight.
She was unable to maintain the impetus but that was hardly surprising given the effort of the move and the fact her trainer, Ger Lyons, likes to leave plenty to work on with his debutants.
With that natural improvement, she will be a much greater threat this time.
Although the draw could be better, the benefit of her experience can help her get a position early, and this Moyglare entry can take this at the expense of Dapper Man.
The latter made a promising debut in May at Leopardstown, where he finished second behind Lundy. The application of blinkers raises a couple of questions, and he has the widest draw to operate from, but improvement from that effort will put him in the frame.
On the same card, The Yellow Bus can make a winning return in the Magners This Is our Time Fillies’ Maiden. From the stable of David Wachman, which has hit form in recent weeks, she raced four times last term, finishing runner-up on three occasions and third on the other.
Each line of form has its merits, as she finished runner-up behind Minding on debut, third behind Queen Of Sicily at Naas, and was touched off by Diamond Fields and Lady Oak in two runs at Dundalk.
While she’s entitled to come on for today’s outing, she has the potential to outclass her rivals, and can take this at the expense of the only four-year-old in the race, Elusive Approach.
At Wexford, Shanklys Dawn can take the first division of the Monart Destination Spa Ladies’ Evening Handicap Hurdle, over three miles.
After three runs in maiden hurdles, the five-year-old made his handicap debut over today’s trip at Kilbeggan and was noted staying on well for pressure to take fourth place behind Oisin James.
What that run revealed is that he appreciated the step up in distance and that he can be competitive off his current mark. With Davy Russell booked for the first time, and the anticipation of a little improvement from the selection, he can make the breakthrough in what is a modest event.
