David Mullins expects to be back ‘well before Galway’
The 20-year-old had a plate inserted at St Vincent’s Hospital, Dublin, on Thursday morning.
He suffered a broken collar bone and a collapsed lung in a fall at the fourth-last flight on Erlkonig in the McHale Coranna Handicap Hurdle at Ballinrobe over a week ago.
“I’ll be back in three or four weeks from now, well before Galway,” said Mullins.
“They put a plate in the collar bone and they’ve done an X-ray on my punctured lung and that’s all clear.
“I should be back as soon as the collar bone heals.”
Mullins enjoyed his finest hour in the saddle to date when partnering the Mouse Morris-trained Rule The World to victory in the world’s greatest steeplechase at Aintree in April.
Ian Brennan meanwhile faces a lengthy spell on the sidelines after breaking his leg in a fall at Beverley on Wednesday.
Brennan was injured when his mount Big Larry, trained by Nigel Tinkler, came down in the Skidby Maiden Stakes over seven and a half furlongs.
“He’s broken his leg and he’s torn ligaments in his knee on his other leg. I think he’s out of hospital and at home,” said Tinkler.
“We gave him rides to try and help him as he’s not been getting many rides lately and then he gets injured on one of ours, so we’re very upset about it.
“It says that he was unseated but the horse just fell like a pack of cards - he didn’t stumble or slip. The horse is very sore.”
