Tracey Collins' Captain Joy in race against time to qualify for the All-Weather Championships
The seven-year-old, who was a close third behind Grey Mirage in the Mile final in 2015, has yet to return to competitive action from his summer break following a setback.
However, he is back in full training and Collins will do her best to get Captain Joy ready in time for another try.
“He had a bit of a setback but is back in full training now,” she said.
“I think we’re going to struggle to get to the qualifiers for the All-Weather Championship.
"If he doesn’t make it, we’ll have an early campaign with him on the turf.
“We’re doing our level best to get him there, so if we can get him to the qualifiers we will. If not it won’t be the end of the world.”
The remaining fast-track qualifiers for the one-mile championship are at Dundalk on February 12, Kempton on February 24 and at Wolverhampton on March 12.
In contrast, Collin’s sprinter Chiclet is having a well-earned breather after winning her last two starts at Dundalk.
“She’s in good form. We’ve given her a little break after her last run. She was a little bit light,” said the trainer.
“We’ll find something for her in about a month.”
