Lieutenant General can improve enough to take maiden

One of three Ballydoyle colts in the field for a seven-furlong Curragh maiden on the Sunday of Irish Derby weekend, he was well-supported (10/1 to 5/1) and, ridden by Donnacha O’Brien, made a hugely promising start to his career, only giving best well inside the final furlong to Jim Bolger’s Sanus Per Aquam.

Beaten a length and a quarter, Aidan O’Brien’s Fastnet Rock colt finished five lengths clear of the remainder.
