Spencer eyeing Hong Kong finale
Spencer shocked the racing world in the summer when he announced he would hang up his riding boots at the end of the campaign and the Irishman is due to take up a management role with Qatar Racing in the new year.
The jockey finished placed on each of his two rides as the curtain came down on the Flat season at Doncaster on Saturday and he is likely to be in action for a little longer before he finally calls it a day.
Spencer’s agent, David Harrison, said: “I haven’t spoken to him in detail about it, but I think he’s going to ride in Hong Kong and I think that might be where he’ll finish (his riding career).
“He’ll probably take a ride here and there before then to keep himself fit and I think he’s planning to go to Barbados for a jockeys’ challenge out there.”
Meanwhile Britain and Ireland struck out in the Criterium de Saint-Cloud as Epicuris gallantly secured Group One honours at the Parisian circuit on Saturday.
The Richard Hannon-trained Crafty Choice could only finish fourth, having briefly threatened a few furlongs from home, while Tony Martin’s Clonard Street was last of the six runners.
JP McManus’ young colt had been quietly fancied after a fine second behind Ol’ Man River at the Curragh in September.
But Clonard Street looked rather one-paced once the field straightened for home and was never a factor.
