Miraculus Return storms to Golden Mile success

The Final of the Hurley & White Golden Mile was the feature on the third and final day of the 2014 Ballabuidhe Festival.

There were three heats with two to qualify and the opening heat went to Co Meath raider Brywins Starstruck who overhauled long time leader The Hitman with two furlongs to race and gave visiting driver Sean Kane his second win of the weekend.

Talented Man was sent off favourite in the second heat and led early on .Meadowbranch Rappos and Howards Camotion closed in on the leader and in a frantic finish Howards Camotion got the verdict by a neck from Meadowbranch Rappos with Talented man a further neck back in third .

In the final heat Miraculus Return came from off the back line to win by two and half lengths from Camden Jimmy

In the final The Hitman and Brywins Starstruck made the early running. Miraculus Return, who had given a forty yard start, stormed to the front at halfway in a race winning move by driver John Cross. At the line he had three lengths in hand.

History was made on the day with the staging of the first ever French Trotters race to be held in West Cork. This series has been a revelation in Portmarnock and is run in conjunction with Le Trot, which is funded by the French Government.

Victory went to the locally owned Roman Tri Castin, who put in a perfect round to give Brickley Racing another winner having won the Grand Prix yesterday.

Driver Finbarr Brickley whose sons David and Ciaran drove winners over the weekend also saw his grandchildren Shelley and Finn compete at the festival, another piece of history for harness racing in Cork.

The consolation Golden Mile final saw a well overdue win for Immortal Mojo who held off the late challenge of Meadowbranch Demon to give local owners Eachway Racing a popular success .

Western Beach broke his maiden tag on the day to give owner Ger Cooke a deserved win.

The only saddle event of the meeting went to Rokococo, who was given a perfect ride by jockey Jason O’Reilly to win by an impressive six lengths .

Next weekend the action switches to Portmarnock Raceway in north County Dublin for the annual two day Vincent Delaney Memorial weekend while the next local meeting is in Lisangle on Sunday August 17th
