Marsali makes impressive debut

Marsali, an American-bred daughter of More Than Ready, looked an exciting prospect when romping to an impressive win in the Irish Stallion Farms 2-Y-0 Fillies Maiden at Fairyhouse last night.

Dermot Weld’s debutante, a virtually friendless 12/1 shot, defied being drawn on the outside of the sixteen runners, travelling well on the heels of the leaders before quickening to lead approaching the furlong-pole and forging clear to beat favourite Gussy Goose by three and a half lengths.

“She’s a very smart filly, one to look forward to, but I thought she’d struggle from stall sixteen,” admitted winning rider Pat Smullen.
