Maureen ready for Cheveley challenge

Connections of Maureen report the talented filly to have benefited from a two-month absence from the track ahead of her run in the Jaguar Cars Cheveley Park Stakes at Newmarket today.

The Richard Hannon-trained filly, who is towards the head of the betting for next year’s 1000 Guineas, was last seen winning the Princess Margaret Stakes at Ascot in late July.

She had earlier looked an unlucky loser of the Cherry Hinton Stakes at Newmarket’s July meeting where she was second to Sendmylovetorose, with whom she renews rivalry this weekend.

“It was probably a blessing in disguise that Maureen missed the Lowther (at York last month) as she has really thrived for the break and has even grown a little as well as thickening out in all the right places,” the Herridge handler told www.richardhannonracing.co.uk.

“She looks to have improved again since she won the Princess Margaret at Ascot two months ago, and we could not be happier with her.”

Jeremy Noseda is looking forward to pitching The Gold Cheongsam in the best company after she landed a valuable sales race at Doncaster.

“I have been delighted with The Gold Cheongsam since Doncaster and I’m thrilled that we’ll have Frankie Dettori back on board,” said the Newmarket trainer.

“I’m just keeping my fingers crossed that the ground continues to dry as she is a filly who would appreciate very quick ground, ideally.

“If the ground does ride on the fast side of good on Saturday, she will be very competitive.

“I believe she belongs in a contest such as this.”

William Haggas sends unbeaten filly Rosdhu Queen in search of Group One glory, but feels the strength of her form has been overestimated by the bookmakers.

She won the Lowther Stakes at York in good style but the Newmarket handler would have preferred to have seen that race work out better.

“She’s very well, but a slight worry would be that she is just beginning to turn in her coat,” said the Newmarket handler.

“I’ve been very happy with her work, though, which has been of a very good standard.

“Heading to York for the Lowther I wasn’t sure about her staying six furlongs as she shows so much speed but she got it well.

“She’s won her Group Two and is entitled to go for it. The fillies’ division looks wide open but I would have preferred to have seen the Lowther form work out better than it has.

“I think she should be about an 8-1 chance, but she’s half that price.”

Andrew Oliver would prefer more ease in the ground for Sendmylovetorose as she reverts to six furlongs after losing her unbeaten record when only sixth to Sky Lantern in the Moyglare Stud Stakes at the Curragh.

“This has been on her radar all year. She’s back at Newmarket and has done all her winning at six furlongs,” he said.

“She has done her winning on easy ground. She handled the good ground in the Moyglare but we would prefer more rain.”

Mick Channon is happy to give Sandreamer and Jillnextdoor the chance at Group One level.

“Sandreamer loves good ground. She’s won her Listed race and she’s been Group placed,” the West Ilsley trainer told At The Races.

“While we’ve got the ground, we’ve got to go and take our chance. She’s a high-class filly.

“Martin (Harley) picked her over Jillnextdoor. I think she’s also a good filly and I’ve always thought a lot of her.

“Neither of them are the biggest, but they are very nice individuals – I just hope they can do themselves justice.

“There wouldn’t be a lot between them.”
