Supernovae looks all set to go one better
The daughter of Dalakhani was strongly fancied to get off the mark at the second attempt at the Galway festival, but failed to deliver.
She appeared to be caught flat-footed off the home turn, as Aegean Sky and Mont Blanc moved on. Aegean Sky finally got the best of that tussle, with Supernovae powering through late to get within half a length of the winner.
Mont Blanc - she eventually took third - has won in the meantime and it will be no surprise now should Smullen make plenty of use of the selection.
Smullen and Weld can kick off with once-raced Cocktail Hour in the opening Irish Stallion Farms’ EBF Median Auction Fillies Maiden.
She made her debut at the Curragh eight days ago and wasn’t knocked about in finishing third behind John Oxx’s newcomer, Karamaya, and Eddie Lynam’s well-backed Gathering Power.
Andrew Oliver’s Uleavemebreathless, who might have beaten Aidan O’Brien’s Snow Queen at the Curragh, but for edging left at a vital stage, is the obvious danger.
Show Court is a third Weld-Smullen possibility in the Boyle Race over a mile and a half.
It is worrying that he hasn’t been seen for 113 days, not since storming to a six and a half lengths success at Leopardstown in May, so how the son of Vinnie Roe travels in the market may be all important.
But he still looks the safest proposition, in front of Macbeth. Ken Condon’s charge has a rating of 96 and, if performing anywhere near that mark, will make short work of these.
But all the recent evidence is that Macbeth is not going forward and Show Court is readily preferred.
