Orgilgo Bay can prevail in hot maiden
The form the Lawman colt brings to the table bears the closest inspection and he is fancied to prove too good for smart rivals in Hall Of Mirrors and Impound.
John McConnell’s charge made his debut at the Curragh, finishing half a length second to Dibayani, with Hall Of Mirrors a further four and a half lengths away in third.
Then he was thrown in at the deep end in a Listed event at Tipperary and emerged with reputation greatly enhanced, going down by three parts of a length to First Cornerstone.
He completely reversed previous running with Dibayani, finished a remote third, and the form received a massive boost when First Cornerstone won the Group 2 Futurity Stakes at the Curragh last Sunday.
Hall Of Mirrors might have won at Leopardstown, instead of finishing second to Galileo Rock, but for hanging badly all the way up the straight, while Impound ran subsequent winner, Sugar Boy, close at Galway.
Both have to be respected, and are surely winners in waiting, but it has to be Orgilgo Bay.
Tommy Carmody’s Sweet Lightning is the fancy in a wide-open Listed Vincent O’Brien Ruby Stakes.
He ran a cracker, under top weight of 9-12, when third to Punch Your Weight and Bold Thady Quill in the Cambridgeshire at the Curragh four days ago and gets the nod.
Aidan O’Brien’s Purple has to be one of the most moderate horses in Ballydoyle, but looks good enough to land the Irish Stallion Farms’ EBF Fillies Maiden. She tried to make all when third to Teofolina and Aegean Sky over a mile and a half at Tipperary last month and a drop in trip should work in her favour.
