Class can get off the mark on the flat

Definite Class, a decent money-spinner over hurdles and fences, can enjoy a first success on the flat in the 1912-2012 Centenary Ladies Maiden at Tramore this afternoon.

Class can get off the mark on the flat

Although she handles a variety of surfaces, the selection seems to be best favoured by good ground, or better, and that criteria looks sure to be met now.

Since the ground began to dry out, Definite Class has struck form with a vengeance over fences, winning by 17 lengths at Kilbeggan, before stepping up in class at Limerick last time.

She took on the more than useful 132-rated Shop DJ and, despite blundering three out, powered clear from the final fence to beat her rival by three and three quarter lengths.

Flying Light, Raggletagglegypsy and Sword Of Honour are all entitled to respect, but Definite Class is in the form of her life right now and rates the nap.

Ken Condon’s once-raced Lady Imola gets the nod in the Irish Stallion Farms’ EBF Maiden for fillies.

She made a most promising start when fourth to Rebel Fitz at Clonmel and, hopefully, can very much build on that.

The modest Dante Inferno might be good enough in the Irish Stallion Farms’ EBF Maiden. Kevin Prendergast’s charge ran as well as could be expected when eighth of 18 behind Blue Corner at the Curragh and should now be suited by an extra two furlongs.

Easily the most interesting horse on view at Listowel tomorrow is Tony Martin’s Thomas Edison in the Dr Louis O’Carroll Maiden Hurdle and he can hardly be opposed.

Thomas Edison now carries the J P McManus colours for the first time and looks to have a bright future, having beaten the subsequent Cheltenham and Punchestown festivals hero, Champagne Fever, at Leopardstown at Christmas.

Edward O’Grady’s The Real Article is a hopeful choice in a tricky looking Bryan McMahon Race.

He came back to form at Killarney last month when staying on stoutly, after making virtually all of the running, to beat Golden Sunbird and hot-pot, Parkers Mill.

At Kilbeggan tomorrow Brendan Duke’s Mister Benedictine will surely prove hard to beat in the Michael Moore Car Sales Handicap Hurdle.

He makes a quick reappearance, having bolted in by six lengths at Ballinrobe on Tuesday night.

Mister Benedictine runs now under a mandatory 6lbs penalty and goes up by 10lbs in the future.

Willie Mullins’ Tasitiocht can win the Bumper, having chased home stable companion, Glens Melody, at the Punchestown festival. Glens Melody then went on to win again in impressive fashion at Sligo.
