Boy primed to strike

GER LYONS’ That Boy David can get off the mark at the fourth attempt in the Barclay Web Design EBF Maiden for colts and geldings at Down Royal tonight.

Boy primed to strike

It has been a case of steady improvement for the son of Kodiac and he should now be primed to strike.

The selection was a costly failure at Gowran Park last time, failing to justify odds of 8-13.

He made most of the running and passed the furlong pole looking sure to score. But it wasn’t to be and That Boy David was mugged close home and beaten a neck by 20-1 newcomer, Korbous.

There was no sense, however, that Lyons’ gelding gave the race away and he ran all the way to the line. His previous two efforts had come on the all-weather at Dundalk and this far faster surface, compared to Gowran, can work in his favour.

Barry Geraghty is a significant booking for Young Palm in the O2 Maiden Hurdle and the five-year-old should prove hard to beat.

Third behind Willie Mullins’ Zuzka and John Kiely’s Kilbarry Beauty in a winners’ bumper at Limerick on his latest appearance, this is a gentle introduction to jumping.

Multitasking, who made a reasonable start to the season when beaten a nose into second by Exhortation at Dundalk, can provide the solution to the five furlongs Blackberry EBF Maiden.

On a very modest programme at Tramore, the Michael Winters-trained Silver Chief may have the answer to the August Festival 16th To 19th Maiden Hurdle.

She hasn’t been seen since producing a decent enough effort when sixth to Ri An Domhnaigh on the flat at Limerick in late March and, hopefully, the market will speak in her favour.
