Flycorn can go one better

Tom Hogan’s Flycorn is fancied to deliver in the most interesting contest on the card at Ballinrobe this evening, the Irish Stallion Farms’ EBF Hurdle.

Flycorn can go one better

He was a good order in the market at Killarney last time, but failed by half a length to concede Won In The Dark 6lbs.

The selection did really well to go so close, because he pulled much too hard for his own good for a lot of the race.

Indeed, it was only when the pace quickened heading out into the country for the final time that he began to relax.

In the end his wasted exertions finally took their toll and Flycorn had nothing left when the winner rallied from the last flight.

The hope now is that he will be more amenable to restraint and, that being the case, or alternatively makes the running, then Flycorn is easily the most likely winner.

Henry de Bromhead looks to Davy Russell, with Andrew Lynch out injured, and the combination have possibilities of a treble, starting with Jimjim Mac Cool in the Connacht Telegraph Maiden Hurdle.

His three lengths second to Clondaw Warrior at Limerick is modest form, but this has the appearances of an even weaker heat.

Sizing Australia gets the nod for the pair in the Sheridan Electrical Castlebar Handicap Hurdle.

Best known now for his exploits in cross-country chases, Sizing Australia showed he is no back-number at this game when third behind Colls Corner and Tough Talkin Man over an inadequate two miles at Naas in February.

The other de Bromhead-Russell chance comes with Absolutlyfantastic in the Irish Stallion Farms’ EBF Beginners Chase.

He is clearly no star, but finishing third to His Excellency and Cass Bligh at Killarney entitles him to the vote.
