Lynch gets Theleze off the mark over flights
Partnered by Andrew Lynch, she went to the front heading to three out but with Tellherimnothere soon coasting in her slipstream.
Tellherimnothere challenged all the way up the straight, but was about a length down, and looking held, when falling at the last.
Commented Mullins: “Andrew says she will be better on better ground and I think he is probably right. We will put her out in trip now and try and find something at Fairyhouse.”
Mullins completed a double when his son, Patrick, guided the rapidly improving Immediate Response to a facile success in the Mother’ Day Weekend Handicap Hurdle.
The nine year-old was having a third run for Mullins and remains unbeaten for the Carlow trainer.
He was cantering all over the opposition approaching the home turn, eased to the front heading to the second last and scored with his head in his chest.
“Patrick wanted to run here, because he could ride him at the weights,” said Mullins senior. “He should improve again for better ground.”
Since arriving at Mullins’ Immediate Response has gone up 24lbs and faces another substantial hike now.
Summer Star, trained by Ted Walsh, ridden by his daughter Katie, and carrying the colours of his wife, Helen, won the Greenmount Ladies Bumper by 14 lengths.
She lengthened clear in the straight in the style of a really smart sort and will return to Limerick in a few weeks for a Listed bumper.
Commented trainer Walsh: “She is out of a half-sister to a Group 1 winner, Act One, and I gave £20,000 for her as a yearling at Newmarket sales.
“The idea was to sell her at the breeze-up sales, but she didn’t breeze well enough and I brought her home and she grew and developed.”
The John Joe Walsh-trained The Four Elms easily landed the McMahons.ie Family Fun Day 1st April Hurdle.
Confidently handled by Francis McCurtin, he got in a bit tight to the second last, but led at the next and was soon nicely clear of front-running, Wrekin Rock.
“He’s going to run in the Lincoln (Curragh) on Sunday”, said Walsh. “He’s not a bad horse and has gears.”
The Tote Jackpot Maiden Hurdle was about as bad as it gets, but punters won’t mind that, with victory going to well-backed favourite Mackey Boy.
He made every yard of the running for Paul Townend and found plenty to hold Fear Glic, who wasn’t helped by getting it wrong at the last.
Winning trainer Patrick Neville, said: “He is only coming to himself, had a good run here in October, but my horses have been sick. He should make a nice chaser.”
Philip Enright, who partnered fourth placed Boss Croaker, was suspended for three days and ordered to forfeit his riding fee, having been found guilty of an injudicious ride.
Shane Joyce, who trains at Loughrea, Co Galway, had his first win on the track when Saddlenomore took the www.thetote.com Handicap Hurdle, landing a double for Townend in the process.
She eased to the front early in the straight and Townend only had to ask for the minimum to score by seven and a half lengths.
“I’m delighted with her, under top weight and in that ground”, said Joyce. “She was working brilliantly and I thought would win. This is a chaser in the making.”
Kauto Star’s half-brother, Kauto Grand Mogul, ran away with the Munster Bumper, in the hands of Corky Carroll.
He drove him ahead off the home turn and the Liz Doyle-trained winner responded to the pressure to shoot clear.
“All he does is eat and sleep,” said Doyle. “I told JT (Corky) to be very positive. He has already jumped a fence and it will now be one more run, or the field.’
