All’s well with the Fly

WILLIE MULLINS, speaking at Leopardstown yesterday, assured punters that all is well with Hurricane Fly.

The brilliant winner of theChampion Hurdle at Cheltenham in March has yet to make his seasonal reappearance and was not among the declarations yesterday morning for today’s Istabraq Festival Hurdle at Leopardstown.

Said Mullins: “There is nothing wrong with the horse and he rode out this morning at home for Paul Townend.

“He worked with Thousand Stars over ten furlongs at the Curragh last week and needed it badly.

“I’m a believer in horses forcourses, so the next obvious race for him is the Irish Champion Hurdle (Leopardstown, January 29), but he won’t run anywhere until I think is fully ready.”

Mullins did not discount the notion that he might be tempted to give Hurricane Fly a racecourse gallop in the next two weeks or so.

The rising eight-year-old is currently a top priced 5-2 shot for the Champion Hurdle.
