Chandler’s ground fears for Hoof It
Chandler jointly owns the Mick Easterby-trained sprinter with Lee Westwood, who, along with Open champion Darren Clarke and US Open hero Rory McIlroy, is one of the many top golfers he looks after as managing director and founder of International Sports Management.
Hoof It has to carry top weight in the Sky Bet Dash ahead of a crack at the Blue Square Stewards’ Cup, but it is the ground, rather than the burden, that slightly concerns Chandler.
“I’m not sure about the going, but this race does seem to be a reasonable chance for him,” he said.
“I just hope the ground doesn’t get any softer. I don’t know what happened at Ascot. The jockey (Kieren Fallon) said the horse just felt a bit flat going down to the start.
“Horses are like golfers. They are allowed a bad day.
“He’s a big horse so he’ll be all right with the weight. He’ll run in the Stewards’ Cup whatever happens.”
