Punters can get in the black with the Benefit of Porter
Pat Sinnott’s mare ran really well on the flat at Leopardstown last week and should at least go close.
John Oxx’s Red Calima went off a warm order for that mile and a half maiden, but had to be given the full treatment by Johnny Murtagh to hold Benefit Of Porter by a head. The selection ran on strongly through the final furling and is clearly in good shape right now.
Willie Mullins’ Otay Kawn is given a final chance to deliver in the Irish Stallion Farms’ EBF Beginners Chase.
He has been largely disappointing and his ninth of 11 finishers behind Original Option over hurdles at Bellewstown last time was hardly encouraging.
Otay Kawn, however has a rating over fences of 125 and that simply puts him a long way ahead of his moderate opponents.
Mullins could also have the answer to the Bumper with once-raced Capisci, who made no show when a remote sixth to He’s A Delight at Gowran Park back in February.
The ground was particularly testing that day, though, and the selection may be an altogether different position on a far quicker surface.
Gordon Elliott’s Mejd, third to High Importance and Shake The Bucket at Bellewstown, might be good enough to squeeze home in a modest Athlone Maiden Hurdle.
Hangover, runner-up behind Lucky Wish at Limerick, gets the vote in the Gigginstown House Midlands National Handicap Chase.
